Let’s Know About The Technical Difference Between Homogenous And Heterogeneous Vinyl Flooring

There are several types of PVC flooring like homogeneous PVC flooring and heterogeneous PVC flooring. Both types of vinyl flooring are known as plastic flooring as well. The main raw material for both flooring types is PVC, polyvinyl chloride. Although both floorings are PVC flooring, they are different from each other. Let’s read the details to know the technical difference between them:

The definition and structure:

The homogeneous PVC flooring roll is made up of the same quality material from the surface of the floor to its thickness. Just like its name suggests, homogeneous means single, from a structural viewpoint, the homogeneous flooring is single-layer structure flooring. This type of vinyl flooring offers vibrancy and color depth.

The heterogeneous PVC flooring sheet has multiple layers. This type of vinyl floor is manufactured by a special process as it has five different layers from top to bottom. The wear resistance of heterogeneous vinyl flooring is primarily in the wear-resistant layer. This is a multi-layer flooring wear-resistance judged by the thickness of the wear layer. For the best long service life, 0.7 mm heterogeneous flooring is ideal. The five layers of heterogeneous PVC flooring are:

  • UV coating layer
  • Wear layer
  • Glass fiber layer
  • Printing layer
  • Foam backing layer

Design and color:

A homogeneous vinyl flooring sheet is made up of PVC materials of various colors by a special process. It has a single pattern. It has only two types of flooring patterns: directional floral patterns and non-directional patterns.

As the heterogeneous vinyl flooring sheet is a multi-layered structure, its printed layer regulates various colors. The printing layer of the heterogeneous vinyl flooring changes the colors and patterns of the flooring. The variety of flooring colors are wood grain, carpet grain, stone grains, and other kinds of patterns.

The heterogeneous vinyl floorings have more colors and design options as compare to homogeneous vinyl flooring as it is relatively single. The homogeneous PVC floor products are the high-end products in PVC flooring. As the color pattern is 2 mm thick throughout the entire floor. The pattern formation mechanism if homogeneous is more difficult and its production process is complicated. The entire production of the homogenous flooring process strictly controls the color uniformity and its color difference. On the other hand, the heterogeneous sheet color is a very simple principle of the printing layer. The cost of a homogenous vinyl flooring production line is comparatively five times more than the heterogeneous vinyl flooring production line.
